Literary quarters in Madrid
(Refs 20A and 20B)

This tour covers one of most alluring neigborhoods in Madrid, the Literary Quarters, the grandest avenue in Madrid Castellana Avenue in its first section, Prado Boulevard, and the most elegant of the parks: Buen Retiro Gardens. In the alleys of the Literary Quarters we'll discover the footprints of the most prominent Spanish authors: Cervantes last home in Madrid, monuments to Calderon de la Barca or Federico García Lorca and some of the oldest bars and tarverns in Madrid (like the one where Hemingway had always a reserved table when he was in Madrid) apart from that on Prado Boulevard we'll discover the buidings that host some of the most important art institutions worldwide: Thyssen foundation or Prado museum, inspiring fountains dedicated to some of the most relevant Gods and Godesses of the Olympus. The City Hall, Linares Palace and Alcala Archway are just few examples of the splendid architecture we'll admire in our way to Buen Retiro Gardens, where we'll take a stroll in the favourite oasis among 'madrileños'. The Crystal Palace, the monument to Alfons XII or the French Gardens are just some of the treasures the 300 acres park host.

Regular tour duration: 3 hours
Extended tour duration: 5hrs (it includes 30 minute break within the 5 hours) and the visit to one of the three major Museums in the world: Prado, Reina Sofia or Thyssen-Bornemisza

Notes:

  • Walking tour where hilly sections can be found in the Literary Quarters and Retiro
  • Park (total walking distance aprox 2,5 miles)
  • Crystal Palace and Velazquez Palace are closed on Tuesdays, in this case the visit would be just from the outside

Notes for the extended tour:

  • Reina Sofia is closed on Tuesday
  • Thyssen-Bornemisza is closed on Mondays
  • Tickets to the Museums are not included and have to be paid at the moment of the visit


Entrance fees (5 hours tour)

  • Prado: 14€/per person
  • Reina Sofia: 8€/per person
  • Thyssen-Bornemisza: 10€
  • (some discouts may be applied, families, students, teachers etc.. but always ID required to proof status).
  • Depending on the number of people going on a guided tour in some museums it is required to have a previous reservation. In that case a small reservation fee per person may be charged on each ticket
  • Certain days and opening hours some museums do not allow guided tours so please check with us when you make your reservation
